HDTV, plasma sales soar further

Friday, 28 September 2007

Leading suppliers of high definition TVs, such as Sony, are experiencing chronic shortages of high end models as more and more Australians buy HDTVs.

Smarthouse News reports one retailer– Harvey Norman in Alexandria, Sydney – recently had its Sony display stripped bare of flat screen TVs due to the shortage.

And according to a Sony report, the market for HDTV sales is booming, Smarthouse News reports.

“Companies like Sharp and Toshiba are now taking share away from several players due to the fact that they have stock and are seen as being leading manufacturers of HD LCD TVs.”

Marketing agency GfK says HDTV product sales in the second quarter of 2007 have nearly doubled, compared to the same period last year.

Non-HDTV sales have correspondingly plummeted by 42%.
