Internet Explorer vs Firefox – battle of the browsers

Mozilla’s free web downloadable web-browser, Firefox, is making ground on Microsoft’s Internet Explorer in the battle to become the world’s most popular online portal.

According to XiTiMonitor research reported by iTWire, in 2007 Firefox took market share of Internet Explorer in every region of the world – and leading the way is Australia and the surrounding Oceania region, where 31.1% of people now use Firefox.

The Europeans are not far behind on 28%, up 5% on 2006, while 66% use Internet Explorer. Tech savvy Finns are the biggest Firefox users in the world, with almost half of all internet users in Finland using Firefox.

Firefox is also making ground in the Americas, with 21% of users in North America and 20.2% in South America now using Firefox.

Also significant is the high conversion rate of Firefox users to the latest version compared to Internet Explorer users. Firefox 2 was used by 93% of users, while only 46% of Internet Explorer users user Internet Explorer 7.
