Young entrepreneurs could win $10,000

The Global Student Entrepreneur Awards will provide ambitious and creative Australian students a chance to test their business savvy. Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will host regional finals later this year with the winners taking home $500 and a ticket to the global finals in Chicago.

The global winner will pocket $10,000 and total award packages exceed $100,000.

Fraser Doherty from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow took home first prize last year with his SuperJam business based on Gran’s high nutrient jams. SuperJam has grown from local church fetes all the way to the shelves of global supermarket chain Tesco.

Also sharing in the prizes was Kendal Harazny from the University of Alberta. His online TicketGold business sources premium seats for events that range from Seattle Seahawks football to Broadway theatre.

Erik Fjellborg from the Stockholm School of Economics was not content flipping burgers, his Calnet (Calendar Networks) online roster system has spread to over 1500 McDonald’s stores. In helping personnel managers he helped himself to third place and the Innovation award.

Age should be no barrier; just last week 23 year old Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook fame was named the youngest ever billionaire on the Forbes list.
