Best-selling author abandons book after it is leaked online

Stephenie Meyer, the bestselling author dubbed the next JK Rowling, has dumped plans for a new novel after an unfinished draft was leaked on to the internet.

An incomplete version of Midnight Sun, designed as a companion piece to her best-selling vampire trilogy aimed at young adults, was leaked online last month.

"What happened to me was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being," Meyer wrote on her personal blog. She also urges readers to avoid reading the draft, as it is “messy and full of mistakes”.

"I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely,” she writes.
