Obama’s new election iPhone application

Tuesday, 7 October 2008

With the US election less than a month away, Barack Obama’s campaign team is attempting to capture iPhone users with the release of software designed to rally more supporters.

The “Obama '08: The Official iPhone Application" is now available at Apple’s online application store. According to the Illinois senator’s campaign, it provides users with "the tools you need to make an impact and stay in the know”.

The software includes information of Obama’s political positions, campaign videos and photos and election coverage. The application also scans a user’s phone book to recognise friends in states where the election is still close in opinion polls, while GPS features pinpoint Obama campaign offices.

Obama’s money-raising success has been partially attributed to the senator’s embrace of mobile phone marketing, using text-message information to gather smaller donations from a larger number of voters.
