A better cycle to jump on

Forget the economic downturn cycle – thousands of workers will use another cycle when they hop on their bikes this Wednesday for Australia’s second annual National Ride to Work Day.

Last year over 90,000 cyclists took part, with over 43,000 from Victoria. Bicycle Victoria, the group organising the event, expects 120,000 riders for this year’s Ride to Work day.

Bicycle Victoria CEO Harry Barber says people of all ages and fitness levels can take part.

“Many people tell us they want to keep fit and see riding to work as the most time efficient way of getting in their daily exercise. What’s exciting is that the day turns into the start of a new habit.”

Barber encourages businesses to adopt the Ride to Work initiative, citing figures indicating absenteeism can be reduced by up to 80% through encouraging workers to cycle to work.

Prospective riders can visit www.ride2work.com.au to register.
