The idea behind Astron Technology was to create a truly customer-focused organisation in the IT industry. Nothing extraordinary about that now, but back in 1999 when Tony Tziolis launched the company, the service, strategic thinking and vendor management had a big impact.

The company, which now has $30 million, grew by 75% in the 2006-07 year. Nearly half of revenue comes from Astron's online strategy, which lets customers order and buy online. Still, growth at the beginning was slow: it took the company five years to get more than $1 million revenue.

Astron Technology now offers a range of services including consulting services, IT consulting, systems integration, network services, technology planning/assessment and project management. The long term ambition is to float the company.

But challenges lie ahead. The industry is consolidating into small very strong niche players and very large corporates offering a full suite of services.
