How do I deal with my whippersnapper boss?
Dear Aunty B,
I’ve been working for the same business for three years now.
I’m a good employee and have always got positive feedback on my performance. Last month the owner announced this thirty-something-year-old who wears too much hair gel was going to take over as the boss.
Now I have to report to this young whippersnapper who has just swanned into work with a sense of entitlement. He’s changing everything and has a million and one ideas. I liked things the way they were before.

Dear Dean,
Is this new young whippersnapper incompetent? While he’s young, from your email it doesn’t sound like he’s useless, just wanting to change things. New bosses tend to do that, whether they are from Generation X or baby boomer or whatever.
Now is the time to show this whippersnapper how you adapt well to change and are enthusiastic about implementing new ideas. Don’t waste time being jealous of his success. At my age (which I prefer to keep vague around the workplace) I have realised there is always someone younger and, sadly, more brilliant.
Be Smart
Your Aunty B
