Many of you might have seen this fantastic clip on YouTube recently, Jill and Kevin's Big Day. A week or so ago it had been viewed by more than five million people, and when I sent a link out in one of my recent eNewsletters we had so many responses my assistant became quite frazzled (with me).

I've been delivering a coaching and workshop program throughout most of this year, aimed at helping those within a particular organisation build more resilience and stay productive during some difficult times. Times are tough and everyone's stressed; I'm a manager and find that much of my time at the moment is being spent trying to reassure my team and colleagues, but there are some who, despite my best efforts, don't seem to feel they're being heard. How do I let them know that I'm aware of their concerns?
David, an executive coaching client of mine and the owner of a medium sized business, recently raised the issue of some problems he was having with a manager of one of his divisions. According to David, the manager (Greg) repeatedly failed to complete tasks they'd discussed and agreed he would be responsible for.
After posing a series of carefully selected questions, it became apparent that the issue was one of performance management.
At face value, David was doing everything right - he had clarified the task and checked that Greg understood what to do.
