The tech company was formed by former employees of PA Semi, a chip manufacturer acquired by Apple back in 2008. The chips made by the firm were eventually used as processors for the iPad gadget.
Google has confirmed the acquisition, but no other information has been provided, including an acquisition price. "We're pleased to welcome the Agnilux team to Google, but we don't have any details to share right now," a spokesman told tech site Information Week.
The New York Times has reported that several people who worked for PA Semi, and subsequently Apple, are at the head of Agnilux, including chief operating officer Mark Hayter and software engineer Olof Johansson.
Some analysts have speculated the company may fit into Google's plans to produce more Android-based smartphones such as the Nexus One.
