Travis Williams was a successful real estate agent when he decided to write a small software company to manage his clients with. “The two other systems that I had purchased were greatly insufficient and poorly designed - I could not find a half decent system to manage clients with,” he says.
He kept developing his program and soon realised that he had something that could work for other businesses. Shifting from real estate to software had some other benefits, too. “I could make a living without having to work 24/7, which is just about what I was doing at the time.”
Williams admits the business has taken a little while to hit full stride. Perhaps his biggest mistake was to cut costs by hiring junior programmers. This led to a situation a couple of months ago when the business was receiving up to 100 support emails a day related to bugs. Williams bit the bullet, invested in a senior programmer, improved testing and development processes and has not looked back.
William’s next big goal it to ramp up the company’s marketing and sales efforts in line with a recently developed national sales strategy. ”All systems and procedures are structured to be completely scaleable - we're ready to grow quickly.”
TIP TO ENTREPRENEURS:
“Be ultra conservative with income projections and ultra pessimistic with expense projections. Do your own research and make your own decisions.”
