Whether or not Neil Singh started designer furniture store Fidarsi the way he says he did - by "taking some money to the casino and putting it all on red" - he has nevertheless created a successful business.
Currently the company turns over $1.2 million, with Singh saying it all started "with an idea written on a piece of scrap paper while sitting in a dodgy ghetto Ashfield park one summer's afternoon".
Fidarsi began as an alternative to traditional retail stores, with Singh saying the goal was to make designer furniture affordable. He has achieved that goal by keeping the operation entirely online, and achieved profitability within just 16 days - not bad for a first business.
MOST CHALLENGING PART OF STARTING YOUR BUSINESS?
"Work and life balance. I literally eat, sleep and breathe furniture. Most people want you to fail. It is a challenge finding like-minded entrepreneurs and mentors for support."
