Many companies were forced to batten down the hatches during the downturn, but Lisa Allen and Mick Michaels of Freez Clothing Company survived by targetting the one demographic with money to spare - Generation Y.
"We targetted labels aiming at the age bracket with a disposable income. They don't care if there is a GFC. They live at home with Mum and Dad, go out every weekend and want to look good!"
The women's fashion company, which recorded $1.2 million in revenue last year, has two retail locations in Sydney. But it has also moved online in order to engage with its younger target market, with the pair saying "the future generations will be doing all their shopping this way".
TIP TO ENTREPRENEURS:
"We quickly discovered that people who shop on the net want the orders as quickly as possible, the quicker they get it there the more they will tell all their friends how good your customer service is. The internet shopper is also very price-savvy and shops around so your prices need to be very competitive, including your shipping costs."
