A saturated market like the hair salon industry doesn't seem like the best area in which to start a business, but Phil and Shannon Adair spotted a niche - a "funky" salon that caters specifically for children.
The pair sold an investment property and started Kidz Lidz Salons, and has already managed to gain $500,000 in revenue.
There was clearly a need for a funky children's salon that Mums and Dads could also enjoy. We saw a niche in the market that we felt we could really improve and have fun with at the same time," says Shannon.
The pair has used the internet to drive the business with the use of Google Ads, and have also incorporated Twitter and Facebook accounts.
There have been challenges, including "keeping staff in tune with customer needs", but the business is continuing to grow and a second location is planned to open before Christmas.
TIP TO ENTREPRENEURS:
"Success can seem elusive at times, keep the faith and hang in there longer than your competition and you will succeed! Be inventive. Dare to be different."
