After achieving business success in Britain, Bruce Bairstow felt his idea for a consultancy firm specifically designed to help businesses in the construction industry would take off in Australia.
Starting again, Bairstow used money from his personal savings in order to fund the business and sought to match his success in Britain. The company offers project management services to construction companies, and helps them control the relationships between themselves and sub contractors.
The company is growing, turning over $3 million in the past year, but the business hasn't been without its problems. Bairstow says finding employees has been a challenge.
"Finding and retaining quality resources. People have a lot of doubts about joining a small or start up business and they often have a range of unreal expectations about what a start up company can offer them."
But despite some hurdles, Bairstow says he has found satisfaction by the "achievement of goals I set for myself despite the challenging economic conditions".
TIP TO ENTREPRENEURS:
"Building a team of loyal staff helps to reassure you that you are getting enough things right to feel good about yourself."
