Victorian-based games development studio Firemint has won the Australian Export Award for arts and entertainment.

In an award ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra, the company was awarded the title by trade minister Simon Crean for contributing to the global games industry.

Firemint's two iPhone apps, Flight Control and Real Racing, have sold millions of downloads and have contributed significantly to the company's revenue. The company's free version of Real Racing has been downloaded 2.7 million times.

"It takes extraordinary technical and creative skills to make a game. This award is a credit to our people, and their dedication to producing outstanding entertainment," chief executive Robert Murray said.

The award's judges said Firemint had strong risk management, as well as responsive and innovative marketing strategies.
