How can I make sure I am heard?

This is an issue, I believe, many women face within their career. The advice given by Pollyanna is the most effective way to deal with the problem. Remaining true to who I am and acting in a calm professional way has gained me more respect and attention over the years to my ideas, suggestions and initiatives, than mirroring other's behaviour.

Another format I have used is to attend the meetings prepared, with my ideas documented on paper already and hand them out to the people in the room for further discussion. Some points may have been suggested by others already in the meeting, so be gracious and acknowledge the other person who mentioned the idea then continue to speak on the items not discussed or mentioned that you have. This way, people can see you have put thought into the discussion, came prepared and it is in writing for all to see who the ideas came from.
