Microsoft cuts hundreds from payroll
Software giant Microsoft has announced another 800 job cuts in order to save costs, on top of the 5,000 cuts announced earlier this year in January as a result of the global financial crisis.
The decision comes just after the company released its Windows 7 software to massive retail demand.
The company originally planned to reduce its workforce by about 5% before June 2010, but a spokesperson has said in a statement the layoffs were completed ahead of schedule.
The new cuts are spread across several of its locations across the world, but only around 200 cuts were located at its headquarters in the US. It is unknown whether any Australians were affected by the decision.
Currently, according to its official website, Microsoft has just over 91,000 employees worldwide.
