Marcus Sellen was just 24 when he founded the company now known as Selmar Institute of Education.
Sellen had been left without work when the training company he had previously worked for went broke, so he set about creating his own. Today Selmar employs more than 50 staff, providing courses to over 2500 students in hospitality, aged care, retail, childcare, and intensive English.
The company's annual revenue is approaching $10 million, and in 2007 he sold 55% of Selmar to fund a $5 million expansion at Melbourne's Docklands, including the creation of an English language school for international students.
