Ruslan Kogan began his online retailing company after shopping for an LCD television. When he thought prices were much too high, he quickly adopted a solution - he would make his own.

The company makes electronic devices in China with parts from different manufacturers, such as Samsung and LG, and then ships them to Australia for a cheaper price. It operates purely online, and relies on user feedback in blogs for product improvement and design.

The company has branched out from simple LCD televisions and now offers digital photo frames, camcorders and even netbooks. Kogan himself claimed it would be the first in Australia to sell a phone running on Google's Android operating system, but was forced to postpone due to operation issues.

Kogan recorded $15 million for 2007-08, and expects to reach between $15 and $20 million for the current financial year.
