Company: Venue Management Services
Sector: Hospitality

Saxon Mitchell started his work in events management from his bedroom when he was 19, dreading the possibility he may only earn standard hospitality wages. He built up the company, then called ICE Events, to earn over $1 million by the time he was 25, before selling it and moving onto Venue Management Services.

The company has achieved solid success, recording 10% growth in 2008-09 to revenue of $1 million, and is on track to record $1.34 million during the current financial year.

Mitchell says he created his business to provide unique events and conferences for the corporate sector, and while he has achieved success, there have been problems. He says the main issues affecting his business are problems accessing multi-talented human resources, as well as maintaining steady cashflow.

Nevertheless, he says the business has grown by following simply advice - "Realise what you do well and hire other people smarter than you in other areas to excel and take your business forward to the next level."
