10 ridiculous iPhone applications

The iPhone Application Store, which allows independent developers to sell programs that have been created for the iPhone, has created a huge amount of interest amongst users

As we reported yesterday, the iPhone Application Store, which allows independent developers to sell programs that have been created for the iPhone, has created a huge amount of interest among users (who are spending $1 million a day on applications) and bloggers, who were less than impressed the iPhone has a kill switch that could allow Apple to remotely delete applications from a user’s phone.

But as the Crave blog on CNET points out, not all the applications are winners. Here are five of their selections for the more ridiculous applications.

1. GottaGo

This application is designed to get you out of a bad date or an awkward conversation. You can use GottaGo to ring you up with a fake phone call that looks real to your unsuspecting date. All you have to do is set the time like you would an alarm and it will call you, with faked caller ID and everything.

2. DrinkBuddy

Having trouble figuring out if you're drunk or not? DrinkBuddy uses the mathematics to give you an indication of how inebriated you are based on what you've had to drink.

3. HelpMe

HelpMe is essentially a speed dialer for calling local emergency services. Problem is, assuming you don't have this on the first or second page of your iPhone's home screen it would take just as much work to call 000.

4. Cow Toss

This program lets you use the awesome power of the iPhone’s touch screen by letting you toss a virtual cow. There is no background screen – you simply watch the bovine fly around.

5. National Threat Advisory

This application lets you see with a single touch what the US national threat advisory is in one of its five majestic “alert” colours.
