A patent application by Apple has been unearthed revealing the technology group behind the iPhone may be developing software that operates on facial and speech recognition technology.
Listed on the application are Wayne Westerman and John Elias, developers of a multitouch interface group called Fingerworks, acquired by Apple in 2005.
The patent describes a system that combines forms of control in order to efficiently use a device. For example, by touching an icon on the screen and verbally instructing the computer to change that icon’s colour.
While patent applications are required to develop all known uses for software regardless of viability, Apple has expressed the level of importance it places on user interface technology, so a form of the technology is likely to appear in the future.
