In the early 1990s, Margaret Lomas and her husband Reuben had no money, but had five young mouths to feed and educate. They began to conduct some serious research into household finances.

In 1994 they started Destiny Financial Solutions from home to deliver a planning, management and strategic services to Australian property investors. “We also realised it was necessary to practice what we preach,” says Lomas, so the pair built a substantial property portfolio.

The husband and wife partnership came under huge strain a few years ago but the pair learnt to clearly define roles. And not talk about business outside hours. Plans are to expand internationally starting with New Zealand, followed by Britain and the US. The company currently has 13 franchises.
