Icon Global provides client management software for community care providers in Australia. Founder Scott Popovic developed the technology for the transport industry, before identifying community care as an industry lacking in good rostering and client management systems.
Although a market clearly existed for the product, Icon Global has had two near-death experiences since starting in 1996.
In 2001 the business didn’t expect to be able to pay wages until a large contract came through at the 11th hour. Four years later, an important client threatened to walk, not believing that Icon Global could deliver their product. Popovic, though he was almost broke, borrowed some family savings and hired new contractors.
“The most satisfying thing was going back to the customer… and getting them back on board,” he says. The customer is still with Icon Global to this day.
Popovic says, “community care is growing and the Government is backing care in the community as the preferred model. With increased funding it is putting our customers under pressure to report performance to the goverment more quickly and in more detail.”
This creates opportunities for Icon Global to expand into new devices such as smartphones where that would improve the reporting efficiency of providers.
