Odecee's sweet spot came early. In its first year, the IT company struck a deal with a big bank, turned over $1 million and learned a good lesson: relationships are just as important as credentials and a good value proposition.
As the GFC spread, this focus on relationships became particularly important, and its founders say those extra services during the dark days have paid dividends over the past three years. Revenue hit $10.5 million in 2010-11, with average annual growth over the past three years of 78.2%.
But the focus on relationships isn’t isolated to clients.
Owners Michael Bodle, Oscar Huseyin and Con Mouzouris say when it comes to motivating staff, management needs to not only understand their employees' career aspirations, but share profits and provide above-industry pay.
Part of the company’s success has been the development of an “innovation machine” led by Huseyin, who is head of innovation and learning.
“We look to get all of our thought leaders together regularly to brainstorm new ideas and concepts. This has been the cornerstone of our success to date” he says.
The company’s revenue targets are similarly aggressive, with expectations that turnover will quadruple to $40 million by 2014-15.
To help reach this, Odecee will launch its first software product in the mobile enterprise space this year, and broaden its focus beyond Melbourne.
