Paul Quinn’s marketing firm could have joined the long list of similar firms that went under during the global financial crisis.
But quick thinking a year ahead resulted in Quinn realising the company was over exposed to recruitment industry clients and the company aggressively pushed into government and healthcare.
“So as many recruitment agencies experienced a disastrous time during the GFC we grew by 29% during that 12-month period and picked up many great contracts with firms such as Austin Health, Melbourne Health, Healthscope, and with a host of state and local government entities,” Quinn says.
Quinntessential Marketing’s revenue hit $1 million for the first time in 2008, the year the global financial crisis began.
It’s had steady growth since and last financial year recorded 40.38% growth and revenue of $2,808,430.
Quinn started the firm after he was presented with an unpromising future in his job.
“It was 2001 and I was in a corporate marketing role within a publicly listed firm,” he says.
“My budget had just been cut by 75% and I spotted an opportunity in a large market with an unmet need.
“The niche was providing marketing advice to recruitment firms.
“There were over 3600 recruitment firms in Australia alone and no one was specialising in helping them with their strategic marketing efforts.”
He initially didn’t have instant growth but Quinntessential is going strong, with a promising future.
“We are now 10 staff strong, have a great subscription product suite and over 320 paying B2B corporate clients of which 96% have stated they are more than willing to refer our product, according to our recently completed annual client survey,” Quinn says.
“However we feel we are just scratching the surface.
“Our growth will therefore come from focus – focus on continuing to develop our current product and growing our existing client base.”
