Product is important, but entrepreneurs are better off focusing on filling a need, Alfa Aminudin the co-founder of IT services business Reseau says.
“I'm a firm believer that identifying a need in the market should come first and foremost, following that should be seeking out a product that would fulfil that need.”
Reseau came about when Chris Uchanski noticed during his work at an internet service provider that customers would ring with queries on computers, rather than their internet service. He joined forces with Alfa Aminudin, and together the pair focused on what they call “strategic IT” combining various voice, data and internet technologies.
For Reseau, marketing is less important than word-of-mouth referrals and networking and this held the company in good stead when their clients stood by them during the GFC rather than seek a cheaper offering elsewhere.
As the IT industry undergoes a major shift in heading for the cloud, Reseau has its eyes firmly on having a dominant national presence and targeted international expansion.
“Having the advantage of being in the IT industry we are able to leverage technology to enter new markets quickly and efficiently. At this stage, we are evaluating various markets to see where there is a need we can fill before we make any investments,” Aminudin says.
