2010 has arrived and in line with tradition I have made several New Year's resolutions. Along with running three times a week, drinking more water and buying a bonsai tree, I have decided one of my main resolutions is to clean out my social media life.

I am a BIG lover of the Ford brand. What they are doing on the social media space simply raises my heart rate above 100BPM! While GM and Chrysler are following a more traditional brand voice, Ford are truly reaping the rewards through their social media strategy.

I just had to share with you what's happening on the new Virgin website, as its re-design and re-build is spot on. Why? Because Virgin has truly personalised its web space, made it interactive, easy to use and built this around the community and fans they have. Instead of focusing solely on the Virgin brand, they are focusing on the credibility and personal brand of Richard Branson - building up that feeling of trust and a stronger relationship with the brand. The whole site is as much about Virgin as it is about us.

The wonderful world of the web these days (WEB2.0) enables us to touch base with our customers/potential customers in a soft way, build up trust, get creative with content, have the freedom to add and change information on our websites and blogs plus drive traffic to places we want it most - all for the cost of our own time. Social media is one of the most powerful ways to do this right now.
