As reported by the New York Times, social networking giant Facebook will soon unveil location-based services similar to those offered by internet search leader Google.
It is understood the services will include the ability to share locations with friends, as well as tag status updates with current geographical locations.
Sources have said the services are aimed at competing with Google for control of location-based searches. Additionally, Facebook will release an application programming interface (API) for location-based services so developers can create third-party apps.
The development comes after Twitter announced a location-based API of its own.
