Now, it’s not often that the worlds of sport and business cross over in my life, but here we go.
Apparently many people are interested in Australian Rules Football in this country – I’m not in the office tipping competition, but as an unrelenting entrepreneur I do run it and take a small commission – and I am told that on the weekend a strange thing happened.
A new AFL team called the Gold Coast Suns – made up of young players and some players poached from other teams – won the first game in their history. Many had expected them to lose every game this season, so it’s quite an achievement.
By all accounts, they will be lucky to win another game this season and may not win a premiership for decades. But for the moment at least, everyone is very excited.
I can relate to this. When you are a team or a business starting out, getting a small victory of some sort is crucial.
It might be one deal that finally closes. It might be that you manage to poach a really great staff member. It might be that you deliver a tender on time. I might be securing a supplier. It might be getting a great price on a new product.
Whatever it is, set yourself up for a win this week. Get your team involved and recognise the win when it happens.
Get it done – today!
