8,000 workers needed for Roy Hill, Gina Rinehart says

Gina Rinehart has said 8,000 workers are needed for her Roy Hill iron ore project in Western Australia, in a piece she has penned for Australian Resources & Investment magazine.

Australia’s richest person said her Pilbara region iron ore project being built by Hancock Prospecting illustrates the labour shortage is slowing down the resources sector, according to a report by The Australian.

Rinehart proposes establishing training centres to help Australians learn the skills required to work in the mining sector, but said that short-term needs would require overseas workers to fill the labour shortage.

“Before we can get to the long-term phase, the project needs sufficient workers in the Pilbara to be able to build and deliver this project,” she wrote, according to The Australian.
