In monetary terms, it has been a good week for the ‘big four’ banks, with Westpac reporting a record profit and the Commonwealth Bank set to reap the cash benefits from its interest rate hike.

However, in PR terms the week has been a disaster. The banks have been subject to fierce criticism from the media, politicians and small business groups over perceived anti-competiveness and lack of regulation.
