Oliver MilmanWelcome back to the world of the working. Hopefully you will be refreshed and reinvigorated by the Christmas break, ready to take on the challenges that 2012 will throw at your business..

Last year was a big one for Australian start-ups.

Not only were there a raft of success stories, with young ventures including Trunk.ly, BigCommerce and Skitch either securing major funding from the US or being bought outright, but a whole new ecosystem of support appears to be forming for Aussie entrepreneurs.

While opportunities abound, it still takes a special kind of business leader to capitalise. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 start-up entrepreneurs of the year.

Elsewhere, mentor Brad Callaughan gives some advice on diversifying your client base and we have the welcome New Year’s news of a raft of new free start-up courses offered by a top US university.
