A new fashion label is relying on crowdsourcing to design new clothing products, with customers and designers encouraged to contribute to the company’s design process.

The new California-based company, Exuve, sells clothing for both men and women with items designed and voted on by participants.

The site holds monthly competitions in which users contribute pictures, illustrations, descriptions and specifications of the clothes they want to see made. Winning designs are then placed online for other members of the Exuve community to perfect.

Winning designs, or designs that are given the highest rating by the community, are then put into production and sold online. The designers themselves are given either cash, gift certificates or 5% of net revenue royalties from sales of their item.

Currently the site has about 70 items for sale, and is looking to grow its product line over the year ahead.
