A new mobile phone accessory has been developed by a telco that allows users to charge their device by operating a foot-pump.

The Power Pump, manufactured by Orange, has teamed with renewable energy group GotWind to create a small wind turbine that can be connected to any standard air pump, which is connected to a device that powers a mobile phone.

The pump won’t give a full charge, in fact, about one minute of pumping will generate only five minutes of call time. But that small window is enough to make an emergency call.

The device will debut at the Glastonbury Festival this week, where Orange will showcase a number of designs to charge mobile phones through renewable energy.
