Apple has given an apology to iPhone 3G S users who have faced activation problems after buying their new device, and has offered a $30 iTunes voucher as compensation.

While the device has sold over one million units since its US launch last Friday, some users have experienced delays in activating the device, meaning the ‘phone’ features cannot be used.

“Thank you for your recent Apple Store order. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delay in your iPhone activation,” Apple wrote in an e-mail to customers.

“We are still resolving the issue that was encountered while activating your iPhone with AT&T. Unfortunately, due to system issues and continued high activation volumes, this could take us up to an additional 48 hours to complete.”

The same activation problems were faced during last year’s launch of the iPhone 3G, exacerbated by the simultaneous launch of the iPhone 2.0 software.
