A group of indigenous business owners will host a delegation from the powerful US-based National Minority Development Supplier Council, an organisation of indigenous and minority business owners that attracts over $US100 billion of purchase orders a year.

The groups will meet with senior bureaucrats and the Federal and NSW governments as well and private sector industry leaders.

Michael McLeod, chief executive of Aboriginal business Message Stick, told The Australian Financial Review that the local indigenous business people hope to follow the NMDSC model, under which indigenous businesses would receive accreditation from an Australian supplier diversity council.

McLeod says the group is applying for a $3 million one-off grant to fund the establishment of the council.
