Optus launches 4G services across Sydney and Perth

Optus has completed an expansion of its 4G mobile broadband network, with coverage now available in Sydney and Perth.

Prior to the expansion, Optus’ 4G services were only available in Newcastle and surrounding areas in the Hunter Valley.

However, while Optus currently sells a USB modem and a mobile Wi-Fi modem that use the network, it is not yet offering any 4G tablets or smartphones, unlike Telstra’s competing 4G service.

Telstra has managed to accumulate a significant first-mover advantage in the Australian 4G market, claiming over 300,000 devices already connected to its network as of early June
