News Corp reports big loss, will charge for all news content

I can’t see them being successful charging for day-to-day news. Sure, they could charge for quality niche articles but it’s a drop in the ocean compared to their revenue from advertising on a free platform.

They could save a lot more money by stripping the fluff out of the current events news – have it more Twitter-style. Half the time you just have to read the headline to be up-to-date.

There’s just too much information coming at us these days to worry about the “quality journalism” Rupes is talking about 🙂

You can help us (and help yourself)

Small and medium businesses and startups have never needed credible, independent journalism and information more than now.

That’s our job at SmartCompany: to keep you informed with the news, interviews and analysis you need to manage your way through this unprecedented crisis.

Now, there’s a way you can help us keep doing this: by becoming a SmartCompany supporter.

Even a small contribution will help us to keep doing the journalism that keeps Australia’s entrepreneurs informed.
