Dear Aunty,

I have just started a new job and on my first day I was introduced by my new boss to a guy who has my job title! I was so astonished I didn’t say anything. I now sit next to this guy and instead of doing the job I was hired for I am busy doing odd jobs.

Meanwhile, this guy has his first white wine at about 11am and takes a short “siesta” at lunchtime.

When I asked the boss if the other guy was leaving, he said: I hope so. Then he asked me to be patient while he sorts things out.

I think my boss has trouble firing staff but my situation is driving me crazy. I’ve been there one week and I know I’ll love the job. It would be a bit bitchy but a friend suggested I “accidently” say something to the bloke in my job and help move him along?

Dear Louise,

One week! Gee. You can be a bit more patient can’t you? The world doesn’t revolve around you, you know. You know you’ll love the job and you are busy doing odd jobs which gives you the chance to have a good look at the company and how it ticks.

Use the time to really get to know the business and customers. Write a plan for what you will do and think yourself lucky! The first week on the job can be a stressful nightmare. You are being eased in gently.

As for being a bitch? Don’t you dare. Yes, your boss is not managing this very well. But it’s not a perfect world. And you sticking your nose in and being destructive will make the situation worse and possibly blow up in your face.

Good luck!
