Our PA has a crush on the boss. Help!

Dear Aunty B,

We have just realised our PA is in love with one of our bosses. Here are the signs. She was always a bit of a frump but has started dressing about 20 years younger. She always used to be a strict nine-to-fiver with the old boss but she is coming in early and hanging around late, leaving when he goes home.

She doesn’t know it but she stares across from her office to his in a way that is so totally obvious. But the biggest sign is she brings him special biscuits with his tea that she hides in the drawer and only puts on his saucer, while we get the dried out Teddy Bear biscuits. It’s a bit sad Aunty as he is quite happily married and doesn’t pay her any attention at all. Well, no more than he pays us.

All the staff have now noticed. Should I say something to her so she isn’t so obvious and put her out of her misery in regards to her high hopes with the boss?

A friend,
Victoria

Dear friend,

Mind your own business. Who cares if the PA has a thing for the boss? What a nasty lot you are. It is a fine thing to have a crush on someone. Quite frankly, between you and me, I could do with a new crush myself. It certainly takes your mind off death, taxes and your balance sheet. And why is she sad? She is probably happier than she has been for years.

You know something? If people in business wandered around fantasising more and backbiting less, the world would be a far happier place. And more productive by the sounds of it. So here is what you should do. Tell the PA she is looking terrific, tell your colleagues to get a life (or a crush) and get back to work. Now, how can you help your company make more money and contribute to the greater good?

Be smart,
Your Aunty B
