Develop a hiring plan

The TaskmasterIf you are like hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs around Australia and are convinced that 2011 is going to be a big year for your company, then it’s time for some serious planning.

You’ll need to think about marketing plans, strategy, distributions, financial resources and, of course, the human resources you’ll need to execute your big plans.

That’s why it’s time to develop a hiring plan.

Sit down, perhaps with a few of your key staff, and think about the roles you would need to establish and fill if you are going to deliver big growth.

You might need a sales person, and extra body in administration, and a new team in sales fulfilment, plus a bookkeeper and a personal assistant for your good self.

But the other questions you need to address are when will you bring them on, and where will you find them.

Most smart businesses tend to run lean, and will protect profit margins by having one or two less people than they actually need. But knowing when it’s time to bite the bullet and bring someone on is a bit an art form, so you and your team might want to consider the specific hurdles you’ll want to reach before you go to the recruitment market.

And start thinking about your hiring process too. Will you try to source someone from within your personal and business circles, or will you advertise or call in a recruiter?

Lots of planning to do, so get it done – today!
