Billionaire businessman Elon Musk leaves people floored by string of intriguing tweets

By now the startup world is probably used to the ambitious and at times seemingly far-fetched ideas stemming from SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk, but a series of tweets late last Thursday left the business world baffled and intrigued.

The tweets started simply, with Musk saying “I love floors”. From there, things didn’t become much clearer.

It was at this point that it seemed Musk might be discussing the recent announcement that his tunnel digging operation had finished the first section of an ambitious underground transport system through LA, reports CNBC.

Musk has previously spoken about the lofty goal of high-speed “Hyperloop” train-style system, while his interest in infrastructure has led to the creation of the Boring Company, which completed the first stage of its dig below LA last week.

However, last week tweets didn’t stop there, with Musk continuing to tweet about his love of floors:

(still about floors)

Finally, Musk’s tweetstorm subsided, with his 9.6 million Twitter followers left none the wiser. Determined to get to the bottom of the confusing string of tweets, Gizmodo sent Musk a message, asking “what was up with all the floor tweets?”.

Musk’s account responded: “I love floors”.

There might remain some confusion about the tweet storm, but Musk is well known for making change the minute he logs onto the platform. Earlier this year, a Twitter conversation with Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes saw Musk pledge to help solve South Australia’s energy problems.

At the time, the interaction had the local startup scene is a spin, with Vinomofo co-founder Andre Eikmeier telling StartupSmart it could be the “beginning of something epic for Australia and certainly South Australia”.
