start-up-idea-wristbandCashless music festivals are on the way, with a scheme that will allow UK Wireless Festival attendants to load up a wristband with $400 cash to spend during the three-day event.

Those with wristbands will not need to enter a PIN or sign their name when buying items, but will only be able to spend $30 in one go.

Festival-goers can pay for goods and services at the event – such as food, drinks and merchandise – simply by placing the PayBand on a reader.

The PayBand, launched by Barclaycard, is the first of its kind at a major music event, and the latest step towards contactless payments that dispense with traditional cards.

By why stop at music events? A wristband that can pay for things would also be useful for tourists looking to lighten their load.
