iiNet customers may get free legal advice following Dallas Buyers Club ruling

iiNet customers who downloaded Dallas Buyers Club may receive free legal advice should Voltage Pictures approach them regarding suspected copyright infringement.

Ben Jenkins, iiNet’s company secretary, said in a blog post the company won’t be appealing the decision but there “may still be implications for some customers”.

“We don’t support or condone copyright infringement but we couldn’t sit by and have our customers potentially bullied by the process of speculative invoicing,” he said.

“If you do receive a letter you may want to get legal advice. iiNet is working with a law firm that has offered to provide pro bono services for any of our customers. More details will be provided when agreement is reached on that front.”

Twitter lands Google deal which will see tweets appear higher up in search results

Twitter has landed a deal with Google which will see relevant tweets appearing higher up in search results on iOS and Android devices.

“By deeply integrating Twitter’s real-time content into Google search, we hope you find it easier than ever to explore your interests across both Twitter and Google,” Twitter said in a blog post.

As well as bringing up recent tweets during Google searches, the partnership will mean Google users can search for hashtags in order to see relevant news trending on Twitter.

The updated Google algorithm will apply to desktop searches in the coming weeks.
