A Parliamentary inquiry into the issue of cyber-crime will begin soon, to be headed by the House of Representatives Communications Committee.
The committee wants to gather views of consumers, experts and businesses as well as inviting all levels of government to participate.
Belinda Neal, member for Robertson in NSW, will chair the committee and told ITWire.com.au that the issue is an important one.
“E-security has emerged as an important concern for governments, the business sector and the wider community as criminals find new and innovative ways to infect and misuse computer systems for criminal purposes,” she says.
“In this rapidly moving field it is timely to review Australia’s progress in combating cyber-crime and promoting e-security at home and abroad.”
The committee is required to report on e-security risks including financial fraud, understanding of internet security in the Australian community, initiatives that will help prevent online fraud, and recent technology that will assist online risks.
