Tech giant Apple has said a small percentage of hard drives in MacBooks sold between May 2006 and December 2007 could be subject to certain conditions, according to which the company will replace faulty hard drives for no cost.
It is understood the computers affected by the faulty drives will display a flashing question mark on a screen when switched on. The affected models have 13-inch screens, with processing speeds of 1.83 GHz, 2 GHz or 2.16 GHz, and hard drive capacities of 60 GB, 80 GB, 100 GB, 120 GB or 160 GB.
The company announced this program last week on its site, and also said customers who paid for repairs can contact technical support for refunds.
The announcement comes shortly after users of 27-inch iMac models complained of flaws which caused screens to flicker constantly.
