The Illinois Institute of Technology will offer iPads to incoming undergraduate students in order to promote the use of new technologies in education.
The Institute announced that first-year students will be provided with Apple’s latest gadget in order to “integrate new technologies into the classroom and foster educational innovation among faculty and students”.
The university has nearly 3,000 undergraduates, who it argues will benefit from the use of the device due to its benefits for reading eBooks and textbooks.
“University education is much different today as compared to even 10 years ago,” said IIT Provost Alan Cramb said in a statement.
“Students live in a world where technology is seamlessly integrated into virtually every aspect of their lives, where information and collaboration are available anywhere, anytime. IIT is committed to providing students with the tools and support to thrive in a constantly evolving technological landscape.”
