Aussie reservation app Dimmi acquired by TripAdvisor

Aussie reservation app Dimmi acquired by TripAdvisor

US travel giant TripAdvisor has acquired Australian reservation platform Dimmi for an undisclosed sum.

The Sydney-based Dimmi team will continue to head up operations, but the website will be taken under TripAdvisor’s restaurant division, which operates under the brand name TheFork.

More than 2500 Australian restaurants use the Dimmi platform, which allows business to place a booking widget on their website to manage their reservations.

“Australia is an important market for us,” said Stephen Kaufer, president and chief executive of TripAdvisor, in a statement.

“Combining Dimmi’s national restaurant network with TripAdvisor’s local and global community of travellers will allow us to deliver more seated diners to Australian restaurateurs, and help more TripAdvisor users book a great dining experience in Australia.”

The platform, founded by Stevan Premutico in 2009, had previously inked a deal with TripAdvisor in 2013 to allow travellers to gain access to real-time restaurant bookings via Dimmi on the TripAdvisor website and mobile app.

“Dimmi joining the TripAdvisor family will benefit our restaurant partners and diners alike,” said Premutico in the joint statement.

“This is an exciting time for the Australian restaurant industry.”
